Are vitamin deficiencies affecting your beauty?

In the current day and age, there are a plethora of beauty products and treatments to transform the outside of our bodies.  Whatever issue you are experiencing, dry hair, skin redness, etc., there is almost always a serum or cream or oil to combat it.  But maybe the true solution is to start from the inside.  It is possible that these issues are due to a vitamin deficiency within the body.  Let’s learn a little more about what this means and how we can gain back the vitamins our body needs to feel and look beautiful from the inside out.

Our bodies are kind of like a car, we need certain fuel for them to work properly.  The fuel comes from the food we consume and the vitamins in it that our body uses to function properly.  When the body is deficient of a certain vitamin, it is unable to produce the oils and other things our body needs to be healthy. 

Starting at the very top of our bodies, our heads and more specifically the hair and scalp can be key signs in recognizing a vitamin deficiency.  If your hair feels dry, brittle, and you experience a lot of breakage, you may be lacking vitamins A, B, C and Omega-3’s.  Vitamins A, B, and C assist the body in stimulating oil production and increase blood flow to stop breakage.  That is why you may be experiencing dry and dull hair if you are low on these key vitamins.  Fatty acids like Omega-3’s are amazing for stronger hair if you want to give your hair a little extra strength and shine.  So how can we get more of these vitamins other than the obvious way of popping a pill every morning?  The food we eat!  Certain foods are high in different vitamins and adding more of them to your diet can make a big difference.  Salmon and flaxseed are full of fatty acids that will help you produce healthy hair as well as skin.  Kale and spinach are also great sources.

If you have brittle nails or notice discoloration, you could be lacking iron and zinc in your body.  You should add more B12 and Vitamin C to your diet.  Many people take biotin to grow stronger nails and hair.  As far as foods that contain B vitamins, try eggs, liver, oats, and nuts.  Add a few servings of these foods to your diet and watch your nails grow long and strong!

As for the largest organ of the body, there are many signs of being vitamin deficient.  Most people experience excessive dryness due to vitamin deficiency.  Vitamin E and Vitamin C can both combat dryness of the skin.  When it comes to anti-aging, Vitamin C works wonders in aiding in collagen production.  You can find Vitamin C in citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and limes as well as strawberries, kale, and bell peppers. 

Many people struggle with vitamin deficiencies that affect their outer appearance and overall health.  Sometimes all it takes is adding a few delicious foods to naturally up your vitamin intake! Beauty starts from the inside so take care of the inside first and the outside will thank you for it!
